Wenn Obama als Präsident (Kanzler) kandidieren würde - in Deutschland

Obama for Kanzler

Obama for Kanzler

(Übersetzung folgt…)

It is hard to avoid the US election and Barack Obama those days. Every time you turn on the TV, read a newspaper - listen to the radio - there is an Obama report.
During the final hours of the election, almost every TV station reported live and all night long - who is in the lead.

It is interesting to follow all this. In addition, I asked myself a few questions:

– Do the (German) people like Obama that much, or do they just hate Georg W. Bush that much?
– What are the reasons they are going to celebrate Obama?
– Is there a bonus, because he is black?
– A lot of people opine: It’s time for the USA to have the first black president. But does this boost or slow down the support?
– Does anyone think about his foreign affair program? I mean, we will be part of this.

The social student network Studivz.de did a simple survey: Would you vote for McCain or for Obama?
More than 1.500.000 students participated and voted - around 90% chose Barack Obama.
Ok, students are usually young (younger than I am), so they are one of the target groups of Obama’s campaign and this result is not representative for whole Germany, but it made things clear. If he would run for president in Germany, he would have a good chance, too.

I mean, I can not remember a single German politician who was able (or would be able) to get 200.000 people to listen to his speech, as Barack Obama did in Berlin, on July 24th.

Berlin: 200.000 kommen zu Obama-Rede

Berlin: 200.000 kommen zu Obama-Rede

Moreover, Obama did a great speech. However, it was not that easy, as it has been in the US.

– When he was talking about the Berlin Airlift 60 years ago, everyone cheered.
– When he was talking about his campaign and plans, they cheered again.
– When he was talking about renewing the friendship between the US and Germany the 200.000 mob was excited.
– When he finally talked about Afghanistan and Iraq - and taking over more responsibility (without saying ‘Germany’) there was silence and just scattered applause.

– When he told the mob, that he is a citizen of the world, they cheered again.

Just imagine G.W. instead of Obama saying this in Berlin - everyone would have been upset and boo at his arrogance.
Nevertheless, Mr. Obama - the people actually listen to you. That’s maybe the most important reason of your success over here. They listen, they believe or at least they hope - Congratulations!

Anyway, everyone who cares about America was running around the past two days with a big smile on his face.
I still did not get it -if they are just so happy that G.W. is gone or if they really like Obama that much, but beside all problems and financial crises from the past years and today, there is one other big bonus for Obama:

It is hard to believe that things could get worse, when G.W. is retired.

PS: I like this video, when Obama\’s \’Yes we can\’ is compared to Hubertus Heil\’s (SPD) \’Yes we can\’. Apparently, they can not.
